Old man winter came knocking on our doors with cold temperatures this past weekend. We didn't let him all the way in, and he left, promising he would be back. It will be sooner rather than later.

Congratulations to district volleyball champions, the Engadine Lady Eagles, who will face Baraga Tuesday evening, November 11, at Bark River Harris in the regional playoffs. We wish them the best of luck as they journey to the finals.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine will host the annual Candles and Carols concert Sunday, December 7. Practice continues each Sunday afternoon leading up to the concert.

If you are participating in the Shoebox Ministry, which is a shoebox filled with items for children for Christmas, they are to be dropped off at the Rexton Mennonite Church by Sunday, November 16, in preparation to be sent to countries around the world.

Bonnie Bodi, who presented the idea a few years ago, has made this a worthwhile endeavor on behalf of the church.

At the home of Howard Dauphin these past few weeks were his daughter, Debbie Nichols, and granddaughter, Darcy, of Westland, and Howard's "kid brother," Donald, of St. Clair Shores.

Theresa, daughter of Bill Darknell, was visiting her father over the weekend.

Jerry Derusha, along with his brother, Leon, are doing some carpentry work for their father, Ray, at his home.

As our country stops to thank our veterans, past and those currently serving, remember Mitch Darknell, who is serving in Iraq.

Yvonne Maison enjoyed an overnight visit with her daughter, Jaimie, who is studying at Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will host a hunter's dinner Saturday, November 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Engadine.

As whitetail season begins Saturday, November 15, remember the deer will be moving and take extra care while driving. You don't want to be the one who gets the biggest buck - by car.

Happy birthday wishes to my nephew, Mark Livermore, and sister in-law, Barb Livermore, November 11, my nephew, Chris Maison, November 12, my dear friend and neighbor, Rosie Prater, November 13, Bernice Hood November 14, and our across-thetrack neighbor, Bud Weger, November 16.
