Fielder Earns Award for Fisheries Study

Dave Fielder, a Michigan Department of Natural Resources biologist at the Alpena Great Lakes Fisheries Research Station, has received the annual Pistis Award from the Michigan Charter Boat Association for his accomplishments for the Great Lakes fishery.
Mr. Fielder got the award partly for his research work in attributing the decline of yellow perch in the Les Cheneaux area to the rise of fish-eating cormorants. That research was explained in The St. Igance News October 30.
"It was a very pleasant surprise," Mr. Fielder said. "I was notified a couple of weeks in advance. For a public employee, there is no greater honor than to be acknowledged by the stakeholders we serve."
