Brevort Twp. Hires Assessors
Brevort Township has named Richard and Cynthia Oliver of St. Ignace as assessors, following interviews with five candidates over the past month. The Olivers will replace Supervisor Edward Serwach, who has been assessing the township since 2001, but resigned that position because it was too time-consuming.
Assessors determine the value of property used for tax collections.
The Olivers are scheduled to begin work December 1. Their salary will be $10 per parcel for 855 township parcels, or about $8,550 a year, and was announced at the board's meeting Wednesday, November 5.
Their contract runs for 30 months, with the first six months on probation.
The Olivers are state-certified level II assessors.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver also are assessors for the townships of Moran, Portage, Newton, and Kinross.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver were interviewed by the township board and were chosen for their experience in the field and on the strength of the interview, Mr. Serwach said.
