Engadine-Gould City
      Hello, everyone. The Newberry Elks Lodge will have a steak fry and men's stag night Thursday, November 20. The Gould City Eagles will have a fish fry Friday, November 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. They are open to the public. The cafe opened Friday, November 14, with smoke-free dining.

      'Tis the season for hunter's orange, buck tales, and great homecooked meals. With various organizations in the area hosting hunters dinners, even if a hunter never sees a whitetail, he or she can enjoy a great meal almost every night of the week. At Saturday evening's meal at the VFW in Engadine, one could hear plans being made for the next enjoyable meal.

St.Ignace
      The cooler weather and snow flurries we've had are good for hunters. I'll be on vacation for awhile and a friend, Deb Perry, will be reporting the news from St. Ignace until further notice. She may be reached at 643-7815. Carol Spidell and Mary Edwards are two of many folks who enjoy the lunch Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at Community Action at noon.

Mackinac Island
      I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all the care and concern shown me and my family during my recent stay at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey. I am making a slow, steady recovery. It is wonderful to be home. There is a tinge of winter in the air. We have received a dusting of snow, and the temperatures are very chilly.

Brevort
      There seemed to be quite a few hunters traveling along US-2 this past week. Dave and I journeyed south, to hunt at the Movalson farm north of Howell. Charlie, Andy, Dave, and Eric Movalson all hunted opening day, in a steady, cold drizzle. The next morning afforded the hunters better weather, as a soft snow was falling, with no wind.

      Along with Cedarville's football team, Cedarville's Quiz Bowl team is also making its mark. Two of our Quiz Bowl teams are heading for Ishpeming December 6 to compete in the state finals. The Veterans Day program at Les Cheneaux schools Tuesday, November 11, was a meaningful program and it was attended by many.
