The cooler weather and snow flurries we've had are good for hunters.

I'll be on vacation for awhile and a friend, Deb Perry, will be reporting the news from St. Ignace until further notice. She may be reached at 643-7815.

Carol Spidell and Mary Edwards are two of many folks who enjoy the lunch Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at Community Action at noon. Meals are cooked by Sheri Gould and Darlene Brown. Senior citizens may stop in for lunch.

The St. Ignace Hope Chest was extra busy Monday, November 10, when it hosted Community Care Connection day. Mackinac County residents in need stopped by to visit various booths for information and assistance. A luncheon was served and many volunteers donated their time.

Sunday school at the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace has started each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. If your child would like to join, stop by or contact Bonnie Ledy at 643-9853 if you need a ride. Classes are for nursery age children to grade 12.

Kim Welch has been substituting at Gros Cap School, filling in as cook for Blanche Thomas. Chris Paquin was full of smiles last Tuesday as he taught kindergarten.

During a benefit Sunday, November 16, student volunteers (from left) Kodtey Augustson, Sharman Colegrove, Morgan Ray, and Meghann Colegrove collect gifts for the St. Ignace Moose Lodge Christmas Food Baskets and the Mackinac County Children's Toy Drive. Until December 24, toys, clothing, and electronics for children from birth to 18 years of age can be dropped off at The St. Ignace News and other area stores. The next fundraiser will be Sunday, December 14, at Gateway Lanes in St. Ignace. Directors of the toy drive are Sally Hazen and Wendy Colegrove. For more information, contact Mrs. Colegrove at 643-7456. At Gros Cap School November 11, we saw students in grades seven and eight, directed by teacher Monica Silet, had submarine sandwich orders all made up as parents stopped by for them.This was a fundraiser for the Bob Buchholz Scholarship fund.

An inviting lunch was served by Blanche Thomas, the head cook. I was happy to join my two older grandchildren, Tabitha and Trevor Blair, at school.

Joan (nee Tarnutzer) McCleland of Sault Ste. Marie Canada called to tell her friends hello, and said she is hoping to visit to her hometown someday soon.

Mabel Pechta of Moran was in St. Ignace Friday, October 31. Ms. Pechta is 96 and still cooks, cleans, and drives.
