The Veterans Day program at Les Cheneaux schools Tuesday, November 11, was a meaningful program and it was attended by many. The program consisted of the Pledge of Allegiance, the singing of the national anthem, a talk by Dewey Lopes, a retired Air Force officer, followed by comments by students and Clayton Meyers. The ceremony ended with the band playing the songs of all of the service units, with recognition to those present who were a part of those units.

Jeff Lipple, 24, of Troy, shot a nine-point, 195-pound buck near Cedarville just after the sun came up on the morning of October 5. He and his brother, Greg Lipple, have been keeping tabs on this deer for three years, ever since it was a two-year-old eight-point. They wanted to let him grow until he was at least four years old, they said. This was Mr. Lipple's first buck. (Photograph by Greg Lipple) The Health Fair hosted at the Cedar Cove Assisted Living complex was well attended last Thursday. The staff at Cedar Cove served a luncheon at noon for guests.
A note from Greg Lipple tells of the big trophy buck that his brother, Jeff Lipple, bagged October 5 near Cedarville. The buck was a nine-pointer and weighed in at 195 pounds. According to Greg, they have been after this deer for three years. The Lipple brothers have many photographs of this deer as he was growing up. Although Jeff has shot several does, this was his first buck.
Plans are still in the making for the "Old Fashioned Christmas" for the three weekends before Christmas. The committee is looking for carolers and any other holiday event that may be enjoyed by the public. The annual donation of cookies and prizes for the Community Christmas Party is also something that anyone can contribute to, and organizers say, the more donations, the better the party will be. A Santa Claus is also needed. Call Rose Miller at 484- 2519 for more information.
The Gingerbread House Contest will have three divisions; children through age 16, amateur, and professional. The houses must be registered Saturday, November 29, between noon and 2 p.m., at the Les Cheneaux Community Library in Cedarville.
