Deer Count Shows 48% Increase on Weekend Harvest


Bob Gloden of Lake Isabella was the first hunter to cross the Mackinac Bridge with a buck on opening day of the 2008 firearm hunting season, driving home with a six-point buck at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 15. As of 7 a.m. Monday, November 17, 207 harvested deer had been counted crossing the bridge over the weekend, a 48% increase from last year, when only 140 were counted over the opening weekend, according to the Mackinac Bridge Authority.
