Sanders To Sign Autographs at Kewadin Casino
Charlie Sanders, a seven-time National Football League (NFL) Pro Bowl selection while playing for the Detroit Lions, will be at Kewadin Shores Casino in St. Ignace to sign autographs from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, December 6.
Sanders, a collegiate standout in football and basketball at the University of Minnesota, was a third round selection in the 1968 NFL draft.
As a rookie, Sanders caught 40 passes for 533 yards and one touchdown and recorded a single high game of 10 receptions for 133 yards against the Washington Redskins. For his efforts, he was the only rookie to earn a Pro Bowl selection.
Sanders became the favorite target of Lions quarterbacks Greg Landry and Bill Munson and, during his 10-year career, registered 336 receptions for 4,817 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was named to the All-Decade Team from the 1970s.
After retirement, Sanders worked with the Lions as an assistant in charge of wide receivers from 1989 to 1996 and is currently the Detroit assistant director of pro personnel.
In 2005, he co-wrote "Charlie Sanders' Tales from the Detroit Lions," a book of anecdotes about the team and its players.
