Highway Department Closes St. Ignace Rest Area, 5 Others

Six highway rest areas will be closed for winter, inculding the one on southbound I-75 at St. Ignace, which closed Monday, December 1.

Six of the 81 rest areas in the state highway system will be closed, including those that are challenging to clear of snow and ice in winter, Michigan Department of Transportation announced Wednesday, November 26. Five will be closed through April 6, 2009.

MDOT will close the following rest areas December 1: Hart, southbound US-31, Oceana County; Hebron, southbound I-75, Cheboygan County; Ludington, northbound US-31, Mason County; St. Ignace, southbound I-75, Mackinac County; Topinabee, northbound I-75, Cheboygan, and Zeeland, eastbound I-196, Ottawa County, which will be closed until June 1, 2009.
