Bessie Coutu
Bessie Coutu Bessie Marie Coutu of Cedarville died at her home Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the age of 89.
She was born November 8, 1919, in Cedarville to Edward and Florence Marie (nee Griffin) Smith.
Mrs. Coutu lived most of her life in Cedarville and Sault Ste. Marie and enjoyed walking in the woods, often picking flowers, mushrooms, and leeks. She made various crafts but especially enjoyed creating dried flower arrangements and crocheting afghans.
Mrs. Coutu is survived by one son and his family, William F. and Marlene Tolliver of Kincheloe; a daughter and her family, Judy Marie and Richard LaPointe of Cedarville; seven grandchildren and their families, Laura and John Welsh, Dale Martin LaPointe, Patricia Brown, Michael J. Brown, Sylvia and Dennis Ruell, Claude and Mary Petitpas, and William E. Tolliver; 14 great-grandchildren, Cory Nye, Michelle Nye, Galadrial Pasquel, Jeremy Brown, Michael Brown, John Brown, Heather Ruell, David Ruell, Gabriel Ruell, Cristian Michael Tolliver, Sierra Spencer-Tolliver, Weston Suther - land, Megan Sutherland, and Jacob Welsh; four great-great-grandchildren, Emma Lee Nye, Lynnann Jennifer Pasquel, Lilith Marlene Pasquel, and Denny A. Pasquel; two sisters, Dorothy McKerchie of Cedarville and Fern Berlin of Dafter, and three brothers and their families, Roy and Dolores Smith of Kinross, Russell and Betty Smith of Hessel, and Donald and Mary Smith of Cedarville.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Owen Eugene Tolliver and her second husband, Warren Coutu, each after more than 30 years of marriage; a sister, Viola Carr; two brothers, Raymond Smith and Frederick Smith; a sister-inlaw, Virginia Smith, and two brothers in-law, Clarence "Bud" McKerchie and Deon Berlin.
A memorial service will be held next summer.
