Biggest Is From U.P.; Buck Pole Winners Announced
Mackinaw Outfitters' "Battle of the Bridge" buck pole contest in Mackinaw City during firearms deer season picked five winners from the Upper Peninsula and five from Lower Michigan. Cumulatively, the Lower Michigan hunters out-measured the Yoopers in antler measurements, 708 to 700-3/4 inches, measured on the green Boone and Crockett scale.
Lower Michigan winners and the counties where they shot their bucks were Charles Tate of Lake County, 155-1/2; Randy Pittman of Crawford County, 153; Don Knapp of Tuscola County, 134; Jeff Hunt of Montmorency, 133-5/8; Paul Cova of Leelanau, 131- 7/8.
Top Upper Peninsula hunters were Bill Rushford of Luce County, 192-5/8; Jerry Sears of Mackinac, 131-3/8; Tony Babcock of Mackinac, 125-7/8; Anthony Blau of Luce, 125-7/8; Vince Sova of Mackinac, 125.
