Dean Browning

Dean J. Browning, 68, of Manistique, had a career on the Great Lakes before moving back to Manistique in his retirement. Mr. Browning died unexpectedly December 9, 2008, at his home.

He was born August 21, 1940, in Newberry, to James and Annie (nee Wachter) Browning, and he attended school in Engadine.

During his working career, Mr. Browning sailed the Great Lakes with the U.S. Merchant Marines. He moved back to Manistique from Algonac following his retirement.

Mr. Browning was a member of the Manistique Eagles Club. He enjoyed reading books and bird watching.

He is survived by a half-brother, Gerald Peters; several nieces and nephews, and two aunts, Lillian Roberts and Lydia Miller.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Browning was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene and Lee Browning, three half-brothers, Thaine, Wayne, and Clois Peters, and two half-sisters, Darlene Carson and Shirley Kerridge.

Visitation was held Monday, December 15, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A memorial service followed at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Gilbert Sablack officiating.
