      Mary Beth Paquin, 45, of Cedarville, died Thursday, December 18, 2008, at her home. She was born January 1, 1963, in St. Ignace to Charles Gerald and Dorothy Aletta (nee Matson) Paquin. Ms. Paquin was a lifelong Cedarville resident. She worked at local restaurants and did home cleaning.

      Marian Florence Hill, 76, of Sault Ste. Marie, formerly of Rudyard, was a professional secretary and later a librarian, working locally for Cloverland Electric Cooperative and Rudyard Area Schools Public Library. Mrs. Hill died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at War Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Sault Ste. Marie, surrounded by her family.

      John Kenneth Melvin, 85, of Drummond Island, was a marine engineer who served his country during World War II. Mr. Melvin died Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born January 20, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Ira and Mabel (nee Jones) Melvin.

      Lawrence H. McEvers of Engadine was a longtime Engadine businessman who was interested in U.P. river restoration and wildlife projects, and who founded the Trout Unlimited's Two Hearted Chapter. Mr. McEvers, 72, died Wednesday morning, December 17, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his family.

      Nicholas Keith Sprague, 76, of Rudyard, was a Korean War veteran who for many years served as a principal and teacher in the Rudyard school district. Mr. Sprague passed away peacefully at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace Friday, December 19, 2008.

      Roseanna Smith, 92, of Mackinaw City, was a teacher and a bookkeeper for Western Michigan University, before retiring and moving to Mackinaw City, where she was active in many community organizations and was a longtime volunteer for the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk. Mrs. Smith died Monday, December 15, 2008, at Tendercare of Cheboygan.
