Wallace Beacom Wallace Beacom Wallace Herbert Beacom, 87, of Pickford, was a farmer who also worked as a supply truck driver for United States Steel at the Limestone Quarry in Cedarville for 29 years. Mr. Beacom died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.

He was born May 8, 1921, in Blairville, to Herbert and Nettie (nee Nettleton) Beacom. He was a lifelong Blairville/Pickford area resident.

Mr. Beacom married Frances Jean Beacom September 9, 1942, in Sault Ste. Marie.

He served in the United States Army for a short time at the end of World War II.

Mr. Beacom was a member of the Pickford Presbyterian Church. He served on the Marquette Township Board of Trustees for many years and also for the United States Department of Agricultural on a Farming Development Board. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau for many years.

He enjoyed horses, horse racing, and horse pullings at all of the local fairs. He always had horses on the farm to work the fields and for children to ride.

Mr. Beacom was an avid Tigers baseball fan. He loved visiting with friends and neighbors and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; three daughters and their families, Frances "Ann" Sarns of Sault Ste. Marie, Marilyn and Douglas Hunt of Grayling, and Terry and James Tominac of the Raber/Goetzville area; three sons and their families, William and Rhoda Beacom of Pickford, Ronald and Tammy Beacom of Sault Ste. Marie, and Gary and Helen Beacom of Pickford; 15 grandchildren and their families, Daniel Sarns, Nancy and Thomas Campbell, Cindy Sarns, Norman Robert "Rob" and DeAnn Sarns, Dawn and Tom Taylor, Curt Beacom and Karen Hughes, Melissa Beacom, Rachel Hunt, Rebecca Hunt, Clark and Audrey Beacom, Betsy and Jeremy Speer, Cori and Tim McKee, Jessie Tominac, Kyle Tominac, and Katie Tominac; 11 great-grandchildren, Zack, Brandon, Ruth, Madeline, Nathan, Koryn, Hillary, Sydney, Hayden, Mia, and Margot.

Mr. Beacom was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Ames and Rena Lordson, one brother, Morris Beacom, and a son-in-law, Gene Edward Sarns.

Visitation was Friday, December 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 20, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. Services were held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Ron Bown conducting the service.
