St. Ignace's Litzner Reappointed to DHS Board Louis Litzner of St. Ignace has been reappointed to the board of the Department of Human Services (DHS). The board is a subcommittee of the Mackinac County Board of Commissioners and represents oversight for the poor within the county. Mr. Litzner has served six years on the board and his three-year reappointment was approved by commissioners at their December 27 meeting. "I'm extremely pleased that he has been reappointed to the board," said Ken DesArmo, director of DHS. "He is a true asset to the people of Mackinac County." The state agency administers financial assistance and operates social programs to help needy families. Programs include food stamps, children's protective services, social service programs, and foster care. The agency also assists senior citizens with daily needs, including house cleaning and seasonal work like putting up storm windows. This year, Mackinac County has budgeted $9,000 to assist the local agency. Philip Ruegg and board chair Helen Johnson, both of St. Ignace, also hold seats on the three-person local board. |
