No Shoveling Snow on Highways Residents and business owners living along state highways are reminded to avoid shoveling or plowing snow from their driveways onto shoulders and roadways, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. These actions are prohibited by the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code. "This is a serious safety concern and it is against the law," said Jon Reincke, chief engineer of maintenance with the department. "Snow or slush should be piled safely outside the roadway. Anyone who does not keep this area clear may be liable for any accidents that occur as a result of piles of snow on the shoulder or roadway." Residents are also asked to keep the areas around mailboxes clear to assist in safe mail delivery and help prevent damage to mailboxes. |
