Victoria Nelson
Victoria B. "Vicky" Nelson, 87, of St. Ignace, died Thursday evening, January 3, 2008, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.

She was born October 12, 1920, near Moran to Herman and Bertha (nee Wartella) Kaminsky. She was one of nine children in the Kaminsky family, and the last survivor.

Mrs. Nelson worked at Charlie's Bar in Moran and the Glass Kitchen in St. Ignace and was a housekeeper for the Della- Moretta family for many years. She also worked for Carlson Motel and Lupon's Motel on Ferry Lane.

She enjoyed baking and cooking, and family members especially remember her cakes and fried chicken. She made the dresses for her daughters' weddings and painted her two-story home on Paro Street.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church, where she chaired the Swedish Smorgasbord for many years and was active with the Lutheran Church Women and the Luther League.

During World War II, Mrs. Nelson worked in an auto parts factory in Detroit. At that time, she was dating Robert F. "Mud" Nelson, who was serving overseas in the United States Army. When he returned from the war, the couple was married January 10, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Allenville.

Mr. Nelson passed away November 13, 1981 at the age of 62.

Surviving are five children and their families, Terry and Linda Nelson of Melrose Park, Illinois, Ronald and Brenda Nelson of Escanaba, Kenneth and Mary Nelson of Novi, Christine "Tina" Schlehuber of St. Ignace, and Debra and Les Therrian of St. Ignace; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, with two more coming this August.

Preceding her in death were her siblings, Art Kaminsky, Raymond Kaminsky, Ernie Kaminsky, Fred Kaminsky, Emma Robbins, her twin Virginia Shipman, Grace Graham, and Joy Kaminsky, who died at birth.

Visitation was Monday, January 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Ignace. A funeral followed, with Pastor Tari Stage- Harvey officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery with eight grandchildren serving as pallbearers.

Dodson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
