Saints 2nd at Rogers City

The St. Ignace Saints wrestling team finished second to the Rogers City Hurons with a 3-2 record at the eight-team Rogers City Super Dual Invitational Saturday, January 12. The team swept the Mancelona Ironmen and Traverse City Trojans junior varsity team during a trimatch Thursday, January 10.

In Pool A of the invitational were the host Hurons, St. Ignace, Alpena Wildcats, and Onaway Cardinals, while Pool B was represented by the Oscoda Owls, Whitmore-Prescott Cardinals, Charlevoix Rayders, and the Newberry Indians.

The Saints defeated Alpena 40- 24 and Onaway 61- 18 and fell to Rogers City 48-20 in Pool A. Oscoda won Pool B, and in cross-over play, St. Ignace downed the Owls 44-33.

In the championship match, the Saints lost to the Hurons 53-13.

"We were in the toughest pool, but felt it would come down to us and Rogers City," said Saints Head Coach Harvey Bentley. "We are 18-5 in dual matches, and four of our five setbacks have come at the hands of Rogers City, and the one defeat to Petoskey."

Rob Robinson, competing in the 145-pound category, and Mike McNeely (112) went 5-0 for the Saints, while Eric Brown (130) was 4-1, Shawn Horn (103) and Brandon Garries (125) were 3-1, John Evashevski (135), Tyler Oja (152), and Steffan Saffian (160) were 3-2, Allan Honeycutt (140) was 2-1, Nate Tamlyn (189) was 2-3, Kaiden Shiemke (119) was 1-3, and Andy Tamlyn (215) was 1-4.

Saints Sweep Ironmen, Trojans

St. Ignace defeated Mancelona 65-18 and Traverse City Central junior varsity 57-12 as 17 wrestlers were 2-0 or 1-0 during the tri-match.

Finishing 2-0 were Shawn Horn (103), Mike Mc- Neely (112), Kaiden Shiemke (119), Eric Brown (130), John Evashevski (135), Nate Tamlyn (171- 189), and Andy Tamlyn (215).

Going 1-0 were Brandon Garries (125), Justin Frazier and Caleb Litzner (140), Rob Robinson and Dan St. Onge (145), Tyler Oja (152), Steffan Saffian and Luke Thurston (160), and Billy Grogan (171).

St. Ignace will travel to Munising to compete in the Mustangs Super Dual Saturday, January 19.
