Huron Halts Service as Straits Ice Closes In
 | | Creeping through thickening ice in Moran Bay, the Huron made its last trip to Mackinac Island from St. Ignace Saturday, January 19. The final sailing off the Island was at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. With temperatures hovering in the single digits through the weekend, by Monday morning the ferry was locked in ice at her mooring in St. Ignace at Arnold Transit Company's Dock One. The Arnold Line's freight boat, Corsair, which leaves from Dock 3, may continue to run with no set schedule, depending on ice. Ferry operations are expected to resume when the ice breaks, usually between mid-March and early April. Travel to and from the Island is available at the Mackinac County Airport. |
