Rexton-Garnet

Much to the delight of weekend visitors, the snowmobile trails are in good shape. The weather has been cold and crisp, and we have plenty of snow as we head into February.

The wisps of smoke coming from the neighborhood chimneys indicate a town in semi-hibernation. That's the case, at least, in my house.

It's the time of year when a warm house, a good bowl of soup, and a great book add up to a good reason to stay home. This view is only taken by folks like myself, who are not active winter enthusiasts.

The Engadine girls and boys basketball season is in full swing. There are plenty of games left to cheer on the team, as one team or the other is playing almost any day of the week, and sometimes Saturdays.

Heather Livermore Arnold was the honored guest at an "It's a Boy" baby shower Saturday, January 26. Friends and family came from St. Ignace, Manistique, Curtis, Germfask, Newberry, and Naubinway, as well as Rexton and Garnet.

Everyone enjoyed good food, good company, lots of laughter, and many "oohs" and "aahs" as the gifts were opened. The little guy certainly will be well clothed.

The Rexton Mennonite Church youth group will host a Valentine's fundraiser dinner for the summer mission trip Wednesday, February 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the church hall.

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Naubinway Elders will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, January 30, at 6:30 p.m. at the pavilion in Naubinway. All area elders are cordially invited to attend.

Anniversary wishes to Wayne and Donita Flatt, who celebrated January 20, and Roy and Karen Livermore, who will celebrate February 1.

Congratulations to Junior and Darlene Shoemaker on the arrival of their newest great-grandchild, Jordan Burton, whose big sister is Molly.

They are the children of Freddie and Sarah Oberle Burton.

Continued get well wishes to the many folks who have been battling the flu bug and other ailments.

Speedy recovery to our neighbor, Ken Browning, Connie Paquin, Billy Joe Hart, and Rosie Prater, who hit a small speed bump along life's highway.
