Engadine Consolidated Schools
HOME OF THE EAGLES•KNOWLEDGE LETS YOU SOAR
by Stu Hobbs Superintendent

Engadine Schools has just begun its second semester for all students. Report cards were given to students a week ago. If you have questions regarding your student's report card grades, their attendance, punctuality, or other concerns, please contact us at 477- 6449. You can also go to our district Web site and click on Parent Connect to access this information in more detail. If you have attempted to use Parent Connect in the past and not been successful, please contact Lesa Baker or Janice Wagner. They will walk you through the process.

Recently, a number of our junior high and high school musicians participated in E.U.P. Solo/ Ensemble band and orchestra competitions and performed very well. The results are as follows:

• Michael Klobucher placed first in percussion (drums).

• Shelby Flatt and Reaanne Robinson placed first on French horns.

• Hunter Sherbrook and Kyle Spencer placed first in the euphonium duet.

• Bethany Zimmerman was first in piano solo.

• Shelby Townley was first in clarinet solo.

• Robert Miller, Nathan Miller, Dylan Formolo, and Josh Townley placed second in mixed quartets.

• Cassie Kerbersky and Katie Hobbs placed second in clarinet duet.

• Mike Ramelis and Randi-Jo Gribbell placed second in mixed duet.

• Bubbles Breen and Shelby Townley placed third overall in mixed duets.

All students played their best, and Director Jeremiah Clark is making continued efforts to improve our band program. Their efforts make Engadine shine.

From the sports desk: Both boys and girls varsity basketball teams continue to play well. At this time, both teams are competing for second place in our conference. Junior varsity and junior high squads are also showing slow, but, consistent improvement. Roughly three-quarters of the season is now behind us. Soon all E.U.P. athletic directors will begin work on next year's schedules. Our athletic director, Sonja Wilcoxen, has done a great job getting us through this year's revised sports schedule.

Lester Livermore Jr. was selected, after an arduous process of interviewing, as our new varsity boys football coach. For any questions regarding his selection, contact myself or Mrs. Wilcoxen. Smokey and Danny Rutledge, Zeke DeWyse, and our EHS Sports Boosters provided a new sports display case in the main high school hallway. This is not just a display case, but a well-crafted piece of art.

Integrated Designs has been selected to manage the repair and renovation process funded by the passage in the fall of our sinking fund millage. Energy efficiency will be our priority for the first year of construction. Many of our windows and room heating units are in dire need of replacement due to age. Construction will begin June 9, just after students depart for summer break.

Engadine Consolidated Schools is one of 11 school districts throughout the state that have been selected to receive funding from a federal Safe Routes to School Grant.

A Safe Routes Committee has been established and chaired by Millie Grant and Paula Ramelis with the intent to explore the best use of these funds. Once again, Engadine Schools (and its dedicated parents and staff) finds itself the recipient of a sizable grant that will help us to provide students with better services and resources. This committee will present at the next school board meeting February 11 on the specific details of the grant. Please join us.

A recognition to Mackinac Straits Hospital for its donation of 10 computers to our elementary school. These computers will allow us the opportunity to reestablish our elementary computer lab.

Happy winter!
