Ken Mills will speak about trapping and the fur market at the Rudyard Historical Society meeting Thursday, February 14, at 7 p.m. at the Rudyard Community Center. Ken is a 1961 Rudyard High School graduate and an avid outdoorsman. The meeting will be open to all.

The Rudyard Friends of the Library will offer a book fair and "sweet sale" of homemade treats at the Rudyard Public Library just in time for Valentine's Day. The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, February 14.

The Consolidated Community School Services (CCSS) will offer a writing class if there are enough interested participants. CCSS is hoping, with enough interest, that classes may be made available in Rudyard, Pickford, DeTour, and Cedarville. The classes will begin the third week of February (with exact days to be announced), meeting once per week for seven weeks at a cost of $75. The instructor is Sean Fountain, local author and teacher. A minimum of five participants is needed for each location. Contact CCSS for more information.

Swim lessons will begin February 26, meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays for five weeks from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the Rudyard Pool. Red Cross Levels 1 and 2 will be offered at a cost of $40. Aqua Tots for infants and toddlers will be offered at the same time at a cost of $30. An adult in swimming attire should accompany each Aqua Tot swimmer. Water Safety Instructor classes will be offered for individuals wanting to become certified to teach swim lessons. This will begin February 18, meeting at the Rudyard Pool Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. through March 24. The cost is $89. Contact Jane Kamper for information at 478-7605.
