Anthony Lester Sets LaSalle School Record With Nine 3-pt. Field Goals

The Saints'Anthony Lester drains a three-pointer with 21.5 seconds left in the game, setting a new St. Ignace school record with nine triples during a win over the Newberry Indians Thursday, January 31.
St. Ignace junior Anthony Lester set a new school record for the most three-point field goals, hitting nine triples during the Saints' 76-30 Straits Area Conference win over Newberry Thursday, January 31, and Tuesday, January 29, St. Ignace downed Brimley 88-61 in a non-conference contest.

Lester shattered the record of eight treys that was held by Amy Therrian, class of 1999, Jim Clement, 2001, and Holly Cole, 2003.

The St. Ignace sharpshooter scored a career-high 31 points. He began his barrage of outside shots in the first quarter, adding four in the second quarter, and two in the third, tying the record at 3:14 of the fourth quarter, then setting the new mark with 21.5 seconds on the clock, bringing fans out of their seats to cheer.

St. Ignace (7-1 in the SAC, 11- 3 overall) scored the first 11 points of the game en route to a 24-6 lead after the first eight minutes, increasing its advantage to 42-12 at halftime with an 18-6 scoring run in the second quarter.

The Saints outscored the Indians (0-8 in the SAC, 0-15 on the season) 34-18 in the second half, which included a 22-12 run in the third quarter and 12-6 in the final eight minutes during the running clock, which is required once a team establishes a 40-point lead.

Over Bays

Ten Saints players scored in the non-league road win over Brimley, including six with eight or more points.

St. Ignace scored 20 or more points in each quarter, starting with a 23-10 scoring advantage after the first eight minutes. St.Ignace increased its lead to 43- 24 at halftime with a 20-14 margin in the second quarter.

The Saints outscored the Bays 24-13 in the third quarter to build the margin to 67-37 before Brimley held a 24-21 scoring edge in the final eight minutes.

The St. Ignace Saints junior varsity defeated Newberry 48-44 and Brimley 68-64.
