Brevort Joe Matelski and Ben Matelski finished repairing the damage done on Trinity Lutheran Church this week. Siding was damaged, as well as some of the facade. The vinyl wind break on the awning had broken loose and during the high winds, hit the siding of the building. The church looks good, and the wind break is repaired. The finishing touches are now complete at the Hope Chest in St. Ignace. This week, volunteers gathered to stock shelves and prepare for the opening Friday, February 15, at 10 a.m. A training session will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 14, for volunteers. Participants are asked to bring lunch and food to share Thursday. Gio Giordani started out for work at the Mighty Mac Monday morning, only to discover US-2 was still not open to traffic. As he was preparing to turn around, he noticed an animal about 100 yards off the shore of Lake Michigan. This is the time of year one can see coyotes and wolves on the ice. Kathleen McKevette and Don Dickmann spotted a similar animal from the window of their condominium overlooking Lake Michigan last weekend. Dot Glashaw is home this Monday morning, working on addresses for the all-class reunion. Church was cancelled Sunday morning because of the cold temperatures and high winds, which caused low visibility. Snowblowing the snow out of the driveway is getting more difficult, as it is piling higher than the machine is able to clear. Owen Jorgensen was out working for hours this Monday morning, as his driveway opens right to Lake Michigan and fills in regularly. Twenty-two hungry friends and neighbors gathered Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church for one of Pega Kennedy's fine and tasty lunches. Jamica Diamond and Gary Revord have been opening their shop on Schoolhouse Road on weekends. In her spare time, Jamica is bottling some of her fine wines, such as rhubarb/raspberry and peach/currant. They will be ripe in a few months. Jerri Rose said Sunday was not a really good day for her birthday. The lunch bunch did celebrate with cake and candles Friday. Happy birthday to Pega Kennedy February 18, Jean Bentley February 23, and Alison Smith February 25. Keep warm, and don't freeze your nose, toes, or fingers. Remember your favorite Valentine with a card, flowers, dinner, or a hug. |
