For the Record... A news article on page 12 of the February 7 issue reported that a local petition drive is underway to establish a veterans medical clinic in Cheboygan. The article incorrectly suggested that if it's established, veterans may be able to seek surgery in Cheboygan, while in fact, veterans could seek initial treatment in Cheboygan, but they would go to Ann Arbor for surgery. The local volunteer committee circulating the petition already has gained the support of Senator Carl Levin. Frank Sorrels of St. Ignace is circulating the petition, while the article incorrectly reported that the petition is being circulated by Bernie Sorrels. Since last week's article was published, Frank Sorrels reported February 6, he has learned that veterans who seek treatment at Kinross are also able to go to Ann Arbor for treatment. Volunteers will meet February 21 with Senator Levin's representative to learn more about the progress of the effort, he reported. Petitions must also be signed by February 21, and are available at the St. Ignace VFW Post, Moose Lodge 999, or arrangements can be made to sign the petition by calling Frank Sorrels at 643-0025. Any registered voter can sign the petition. ••• In the story, "County Eyes Change for 911 Dispatch," on page 1 in the February 7 issue of The St. Ignace News, the statement that Negaunee's 9-1-1 dispatch center is the only one in the state that processes 9-1-1 calls for multiple counties is inaccurate. There are at least two more centers in Michigan that cover more than one county. ••• On page six of the January 31 issue of The St. Ignace News, in the article titled "Council Will Consider Salaries for City Department Managers," the informational box next to the article should state that the number of years city attorney Prentiss Brown, Jr. has served is 51, not 55 years. |
