Anna 'Ann'Wallace

Anna E. "Ann" Wallace of St. Ignace was a proofreader for the Sault Evening News in Sault Ste. Marie for many years, and was later a teacher's aide in the Sault Ste. Marie Area Public Schools system. In 1985, she and her husband, Rod, moved to the cottage at Gros Cap that they had owned since 1967. Mrs. Wallace passed away at age 86, at Mackinac Straits Hospital Friday, February 8, 2008, ending a year-long illness with cancer.

She was born in National Mine, January 11, 1922, to Ensio and Mary (Baslo) Potila, who were of Finnish descent.

She married Roderick Wallace of Sault Ste. Marie September 5, 1951, and he survives her. While they were living in Sault Ste. Marie, they attended the First United Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wallace is survived by her two sons, Roderick Jr. of California, New York, and Christopher of Westland, and a step-daughter, Nancy Wallace of Huntington Beach, California.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Aho, and four brothers, Albert, John, Henry, and Ernest.

A memorial service will be Saturday, February 16, at 2 p.m. at Dodson Funeral Chapel in St. Ignace. The Reverend James Balfour will officiate.
