Brevort
By Lois Movalson 292-5581

Larry First is reluctant to take his hare hunting hounds out to do a little rabbit hunting, as that layer of ice on top of the snow tends to cut their feet. It also makes walking hazardous, as well as driving on the side roads. It's just dangerous out there.

Lois Stevenson of Muskegon called last week to say how much she enjoyed The St. Ignace News, and in particular, the goings on of the people in Brevort and Epoufette. Lois has a cottage on Epoufette Bay and is a cousin of Jim Dyer. Taking part in the Rexton/Epoufette reunion every year is the highlight of her summers.

Some of the men of our small community are suffering various ailments, including John Kennedy, Tom Gustafson, Jim Dyer, Jim Rose, and Dave Movalson is doing physical therapy with the good people at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace. Keep the guys in your thoughts and prayers. We hope the women remain strong.

Jim and Ann Dyer and sometimes Dot Glashaw enjoy dinners Tuesday and Thursday at the senior center in Engadine this long winter. Newberry seniors were invited to the Valentine's Day dinner. Bingo was played afterward.

Owen and Barb Jorgensen were callers in Gaylord last week, between storms.

Mary Ann First's sister, Amy Young, and a friend, Jud DeHaan of Kalamazoo, were weekend visitors of Mary and Larry's home on Worth Road.

The next day, Amy and Jud boarded the snow train in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Jeff and Kathy Mitchenson and their children, Leland, Shelby, and Olivia, of Grand Blanc, visited Dave and me Sunday afternoon. We spoke of the wolves or coyotes that run on the ice this time of year. Kathy said a coyote came into their backyard in Grand Blanc and their golden retriever was playing with it.

Kathy quickly called the dog into the house. Marion Green lives in New Hudson and cannot let her dogs out in her backyard because of the coyotes that roam around her yard, they said.

Dot Glashaw, along with Sherri Baron and Jerri Rose, attended the Red Hat Society meeting Saturday, February 16, at the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace.

Joe Matelski, Mort Becker, and Ben Matelski are working in Brevort for a time, renovating a condominium.

We received word this week of the passing of a Brevort friend, Al Deal of Spring Lake. Al and his wife, Connie, have a cottage on Schoolhouse Road, north of Worth Road. An obituary is printed in this issue.

Doug Saur of Williamsburg passed away Thursday, February 14. Doug, who was retired from the Michigan State Police, was stationed in St. Ignace years ago.

The Trinity Lutheran Church ladies are still collecting recipes for the new cookbook.
