Gould City

Even though the temperatures have dipped very low lately, there are still quite a few activities for those who love to play in the snow.

Curtis celebrated the 14th annual Winter Carnival last weekend, sponsored by the Curtis Area Chamber of Commerce.

There were children's games and miniature ice golf enjoyed by the adults and children alike, turkey bowling, a cookie walk, and a mini-sled snowmobile challenge. This year the chili cook-off kicked off the events. Desserts were available from the Curtis Women's Club bake sale.

The Lakes Area Lions Club served hot coffee.

Other vendors were also selling their wares.

The Curtis Fish Coop provided children and adults the opportunity to catch fish through the ice.

There were 1,200 to 1,300 rainbow trout, ranging in size from 12 to 30 inches long, and a few golden trout.

Naubinway is in its 16th year of running the Antique Snowmobile Show. The "Top of the Lake Snowmobile Show and Ride" provided entertainment for young and old last weekend.

The town was alive with the sights and sounds of antique and vintage snowmobiles. People from all over Michigan and surrounding states and Canada always gather at Naubinway to view some of the first sleds ever made.

They hold a breakfast ride for rubber-tracked sleds (newer models), and this year they headed for Garfield Township Hall, where the local American Legion Post cooked a breakfast for the crowd, after which they joined together for a 20-mile round trip ride.
