Rudyard

Valentine's Day is such a wonderful time of the year. It was even better as Michelle Spencer became engaged to Chris Schrader of Kinross.

Leeann Vansloten and Nick Rye's wedding date is at the end of March. The big day is approaching, and everyone is getting excited.

Tonya Loonsfoot also got engaged within the last month to J.D. Hoolsema. The two live in the Kinross area and plan to wed next year.

There is a new coffee shop in Kincheloe. Lisa Sanders owns the Barista Bay on 16779 South Meehan, behind the Kinross Co-op. She opened her doors in October 2007, in partnership with Caffeine Express in Sault Ste. Marie. Open Monday through Saturday, she specializes in Italian submarine sandwiches has a variety of soup and sandwich combos. Her menu also includes the most delicious French Vanilla Coco Carmel drink. Stop by and see Lisa, and her wonderful new addition to the Kincheloe area.

The annual snow queen and princess pageant is coming to the Kinross Recreation Center Saturday, February 23, at 11 a.m. Girls six to 12 years old can enter for Snow Princess and 13 to 18 years old can enter for Snow Queen. Local businesses may sponsor contestants for a sponsorship fee of $50. Sign up is due now, so see Deedee Frasure for more details. Deedee also wants everyone to know that the fitness center is open Monday through Friday from noon to 8 p.m. The computer lab is open the same time and is free to use.

Janet Mayer, of the Rudyard Township office, reminds everyone that the historical society meets every second Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Rudyard Community Center.

There will also be a blood drive Friday, March 7, from noon to 5:45 p.m. at the Rudyard Community Center.

This week in Rudyard, middle and senior high school are busy. Spirit week is going on for the high school this week, and the middle school will be having spirit week March 3 to March 7.

January students of the month for grades three through eight were Destiny Ortiz, Lexi Bootz, Lyndsey Brewster, Stephanie King, Taylor Babcock, Jordan Danley, Andrew Meehan, Serena Standifer, Robin Nault, Shyann Armstrong, Lisa Salo, Kayla Coffey, Elden Salo, and Faith Gubanche.

We would like to welcome Kevin Volts to the Rudyard area. Kevin has been living here for the last three months. He loves the land and the wildlife that he sees coming in and out of his backyard.

Melinda Mongene is back in the Rudyard schools. We welcome her back to our small community.
