Applications for Festival of Arts at Wooden Boat Show Due by April 1

The Les Cheneaux Historical Association is now accepting applications for its annual Festival of Arts, held in conjunction with the 31st Annual Les Cheneaux Antique Wooden Boat Show.

This year's show will be Saturday, August 9, and the 33rd Annual Festival of Arts will be offered from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., overlooking Hessel Marina.

Applications to participate in the art show must be made by April 1, and space is limited. The show has about 70 spaces, which fill quickly since the Boat Show and Festival of Arts typically draw 8,000 to 10,000 spectators a year. Artists selected to participate in the show will pay $65 for a 10-foot by 10-foot space.

Artists must generate original work, and will be required to provide three images of their work, as well as an image showing how the artist's booth will look. All four images must be submitted on slides, because a 12-person jury considers the images together and views them on a screen before selecting artists.

Set-up for the show will begin at 7 a.m. August 9, and spaces will be assigned to each artist. Artists must bring their own display materials. Spaces not claimed by 9 a.m. Saturday will be reassigned to other artists. Parking is limited.

Information can be obtained by calling Annegret Goehring at 484- 2234 or the Boat Show headquarters at the Les Cheneaux Historical Museum at 484-2821.

Anyone seeking an application should send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Festival of Arts, P.O. Box 372, Hessel, Michigan 49745. Applications should also be sent to that address.
