Virginia Rose Delmotte, 89, of Sault Ste. Marie, formerly managed the Runway Bar and later Gin's Cafe at Hessel. Mrs. Delmotte died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.

She was born February 10, 1919, in Detroit to Lawrence and Alice (nee O'Dill) Jossens. She grew up in the Detroit area.

She married John A. Delmotte November 6, 1937, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Detroit. In 1954, they moved to Hessel, where they ran the Runway Bar for several years and then built and operated Gin's Cafe (currently the Hessel Bay Inn). They later lived in the Detroit area and in Florida before she made her home in Sault Ste. Marie in approximately 1997.

She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie, and the Law White VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 7958 in Hessel. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and plastic canvas needlepoint. Her daughters said she made the best pies ever, from scratch.

She is survived by four children and their families, Mary and Jack Sanderson of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Joyce and Gene Isaacs of Jackson, Lawrence Delmotte of Escanaba, and Janet Whyte of Sault Ste. Marie; 15 grandchildren and their families, William Johnson, Jeannie Reid, Lawrence Johnson, Karen Boucher, Sharon Ambs, Darlene Grohalski, Lloyd Leslie, Anne Leslie, Kristi Asplund, Kerri Moilanen, Kathy Dimock, Virginia Halabrin, James Whyte, Robert Whyte, and Michael Whyte; 27 great-grandchildren, and three great-greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died January 7, 1994; four siblings and their spouses, Anthony and Freida Jossens, Lawrence Jossens, Marie Jossens, and Elizabeth and Robert Towle; and two grandsons, John Howard Delmotte and John Patrick Mitchell.

A mass to celebrate her life will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie later this year. Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville.

Reamer Galer Funeral Home of Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
