Minerva Ogle

Minerva J. Ogle, 92, of St. Ignace, was the owner of the former Min's Chicken Shack at Evergreen Shores, and cooked for the schools and worked at several St. Ignace restaurants. Mrs. Ogle died Thursday, February 14, 2008, at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care.

She was born in Moran October 1, 1915, to Louis and Elvina (nee Burkhardt) Bellant. She grew up in the Pointe LaBarbe area, and friends recalled she and her sisters were known as the "Belles of Pointe LaBarbe."

Mrs. Ogle owned her own restaurant in Evergreen Shores. She retired as a cook for the St. Ignace school system, after working at several restaurants in St. Ignace, including the Cobblestone Cafe and Belle Isle.

She was an avid gardener, and her family and church were most important to her, friends said. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

She married Robert "Allen" Ogle October 31, 1934.

Mrs. Ogle is survived by two children and their families, Betty Mae and Bud Closs, and Robert and Darlene Ogle, all of Grand Haven, five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three greatgreat grandchildren, and a sister and her family, Helena Fidele and David Potter of St. Ignace.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1963, and two sisters, Genevieve Boscacci and Violet Jones.

A private visitation was held Saturday, February 16, at Dodson Funeral Home, with prayers by Pastor Dan Williams. A graveside service will be held in May at Lakeside Cemetery in St. Ignace.
