By David Latva

The St. Ignace Saints wrestling team won its third consecutive district championship and fifth title during the six-year leadership of Coach Harvey Bentley, earning victories over the Charlevoix Rayders and Rudyard Bulldogs during the District 4 Tournament Thursday, February 14, at Charlevoix.

The Saints defeated the Rayders 58-16 in the opening round and downed the Bulldogs 55-24 for the district title.

"I am pleased with our effort and that we didn't look ahead to the regionals," said Coach Bentley.

The Saints, along with district champions from Boyne City, Gwinn, and Manistique, will compete for the regional crown Wednesday, February 20, at Rogers City, with the winner moving on to the state finals in Battle Creek Friday, February 29, and Saturday, March 1.

Coach Bentley had to make some changes in the lineup as Rob Robinson in the 140-weight class stayed home after suffering from the flu, and he played mix and match with the final weight classes at 171, 189, 215, and heavyweight.

"We needed to make the changes for the upcoming regionals and the move paid off," added Bentley.
