Jim Lamoreaux Retires From Officiating
St. Ignace Honors Referee for 54 years With Celebration

Jim Lamoreaux of St. Ignace, who served 54 years as a high school referee with the Michigan High School Athletic Association, was honored during his final season by LaSalle High School between the junior varsity and varsity boys basketball games against Gaylord Tuesday, February 12.
The Upper Peninsula Hall of Fame member has mentored more than 50 young officials and has officiated more than 2,000 basketball and football games during his illustrious career.
A message about Mr. Lamoreaux's career was presented to the large crowd of family members, present and former referee partners, and friends, before Marty Spencer, athletic director at St. Ignace, gave Mr. Lamoreaux a plaque of appreciation on behalf of the school and community.
Mr. Lamoreaux was dressed in a cap and vest made by Dorene Ingalls, St. Ignace girls basketball coach.
"I'm very pleased with all the recognition, especially from the St. Ignace school and the entire community," said. Mr. Lamoreaux. "I was very fortunate to have worked with many outstanding officials over the 54 years."
Mr. Lamoreaux, who has officiated state finals in boys and girls basketball and in football, officiated his final game in St. Ignace with Bobby Lee and Gary McDonald, both of St. Ignace. The trio walked off the court and into the high school cafeteria to join family and friends for cake, coffee, and punch.
Mr. Lamoreaux will close out his career during the final week of boys basketball.
