Masuga, Royan, Hilgendorf Win Conservation Poster Contest

Jarron Masuga of Les Cheneaux Community Schools, Hanna Royan of Turner-Howson Elementary in Rudyard, and Morgan Hilgendorf of Soo Township School received plaques for their first place winning posters at the Chippewa/East Mackinac Conservation District dinner and annual meeting January 31.
The students participated in the conservation district's annual poster contest, which this year invited students in first through third grades to submit poster designs based on the idea of water, soil, energy, wildlife, air, and recycling of natural resources.
Students' interpretation of the themes are judged locally in the fall. First place winners are sent on to the State Conservation District Poster Contest, where state finalists are selected and become eligible for the national contest.
Jarron Masuga was the first place winner in the first grade division of the contest. Trenton Mac- Dowell of Turner-Howson Elementary in Rudyard took second place, while Drew Bootz of Turner Howson took third. Honorable mentions went to Les Cheneaux Elementary students Shelby Diehl and Chase Fisher.

In the second grade, Hanna Royan's first place award was followed by second place winner Branden Maahs of Turner-Howson, and third place winner Trevor Kohlmann of Les Cheneaux Elementary. Honorable mentions went to Kelsie Sibbald of Pickford and Ashton McConnell of Turner- Howson.
Third grade first place winner Morgan Hilgendorf was followed by Michael East of Soo Township School in second place. Ramido Staten and Karrington Christie, both of Rudyard Middle School, tied for third place. Brenda Mac- Laren of Soo Township, Johnathan Coullard of Pickford, Trista Mac- Dowell of Rudyard, and Holly Maser of Drummond Island all received honorable mentions.
