Emergency Funds Available in County

Mackinac County has been awarded $14,924 in federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. A local board will determine how the funds will be distributed among food and shelter programs provided by service organizations.

Grants will go to government and private nonprofit groups that have demonstrated the ability to deliver food or shelter to the needy. Organizations interested in applying for funds should contact Don Wright at the Community Action Agency in St. Ignace at 643-8595.

The funds are part of more than $8 million distributed in Michigan from a federal funding package, U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin announced February 26.

A public Emergency Food and Shelter meeting will take place at the Community Action Agency Tuesday, March 18, at 11 a.m. The agency is at 368 Reagon Street in St. Ignace.
