March Red Cross Blood Drives Announced in Area

American Red Cross blood drives will be held at the following locations:

Sault Ste. Marie: Friday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Sault Ste. Marie High School; Wednesday, March 19, from noon to 5:45 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church; Tuesday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Health Center.

Brimley: Thursday, March 20, from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Waishkey Center.

Mackinaw City: Wednesday, March 19, from noon to 5:45 p.m. at Cedarbrook Village.

Cheboygan: Friday, March 21, from noon to 5:45 p.m. at the VFW Post.

Cold temperatures, snow, and poor road conditions since the beginning of February have forced the cancellation of 18 blood drives in the state through the American Red Cross.

Those shutdowns resulted in the loss of nearly 890 blood donations for the care of Michigan hospital patients.

Donations have also been slow at drives statewide, causing overall donations for the month to drop by 15%, Red Cross reported.
