Dorothy Vaseau Dorothy Vaseau of Curtis was an experienced quilter and seamstress. She was a former resident of the Detroit and Brighton areas, moving north from Brighton in July 2005. She spent summers in the Curtis area for many years, and greatly enjoyed feeding the squirrels, deer, and birds that flocked around her home. Mrs. Vaseau was 63 when she died unexpectedly Saturday, March 8, 2008. She was born in Detroit December 24, 1944, to Melvin and Mary (nee Mish) Painter. While she lived in the Detroit area, she was a member of the Fort Street Presbyterian Church. She married Gary Vaseau July 27, 1963, in Detroit. They established a cabin on Sandtown Road in Curtis, and vacationed there while they lived downstate. Friends recall that family always came first for Mrs. Vaseau. She is survived by her husband, Gary; four daughters and their families, Shirley Gross and Darryl Ayers of Frederick, Kimberly and David Bakker of Pinckney, Diane and Jeff Bogedain of Monroe, and Dawn and Jerry Pickell of Fowlerville; five brothers, Leonard Painter of Washington, Ronnie Painter of Ohio, Ted Painter of Inkster, Wayne Painter of Detroit, and Roger Painter of Dearborn; three sisters, Barbara Painter of Michigan, Heidie Painter of West Branch, and Claudette Painter of Bad Axe; 11 grandchildren, Rachel, Andrew, Betty, Michell, Faith, Jacob, Rebecca, Courtney, Stephanie, Victoria, and Evelyn, and one great-grandson, Wesley. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Gary, Melvin, Geraldine, and Tom. Services will be Wednesday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace. Visitation will be before the service, starting at 10 a.m. The Reverend James Balfour of St. Ignace United Methodist Church will officiate. |
