Students from Rudyard Area Schools have won awards for their art at several juried art shows this year, reports Richard Guimond, the high school art teacher, including seniors Kaela Dobson, Rochelle McDowell, Brian Bedell, Rachel Browning, and Angela St. Andrew; juniors David Hoolsema, Celyne McMillan, Kacey Lewis, and D.J. Holloway; sophomores Heather Vincent and Dannie Brabrant; freshman Leah Wallis; first-grade student Novi Price, and fifth-grade student Trista Miller.

Students participated in shows at Alberta House Gallery in Sault Ste. Marie, Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, and a Michigan Art Education Association show in Lansing.

The Rudyard Bulldogs varsity baseball team will be waiting tables at the Varsity Grill to collect donations for the team the first Wednesday of every month, reports Keith Clegg, owner of the restaurant.

All tips will go for necessities for the baseball season.

There also may be a name change going on in April for the Varsity Grill. Keith is talking about changing the name back to Pure Country, its original name.

CJ Knutsen, a varsity wrestler, deserves congratulations for making the state finals March 6 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Although he lost both matches, we are all proud of his accomplishments. CJ has broken seven school records, including: most take downs, most wins, most team points, most pins, most technical falls, two-point near falls, and three-point near falls.

Congratulations to all of the students who made the U.P. Academic Swim Team, maintaining a 3.75 grade point average during the swim season: Caitlyn Mudroch, Spencer Dugan and Lucas Meehan, freshmen, and Katelyn Meehan, senior.

Earning places in the U.P. Finals individual swim results were Meagan Mayer, with eighth place and fourth place finishes, and Lucas Meehan, with two eighth place finishes.

In relay events, the Rudyard Bulldogs team of Lucas Meehan, Brady Burby, Spencer Dugan, and Wade Thibert earned a fourth place finish and a seventh place finish. The Bulldogs team of Eryn Reed, Meagan Mayer, Jazmine Wilkins, and Emily Markstrom earned an eighth place finish.

Breakfast with the Easter bunny will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Rudyard Community Center.

Photographs and games will be included, with an Easter egg scramble at 11 a.m.

The Easter breakfast hosted at Kinross Recreation Center March 16 a was a huge success. The Easter bunny was dressed to impress and was handing out bunnies to all of the kids.
