DeTour Band Players Earn Trip to State Solo, Ensemble Festival

DeTour students participated in the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) District 13 Solo and Ensemble Festival Saturday, January 19, in Pickford. Four students, Korin Goetz, Nicole Melcer, Sarah Reed, and Breanna Sullivan, participated from DeTour High School. Miss Goetz, Miss Melcer, and Miss Reed earned a rating of I, and Miss Sullivan earned a II. DeTour Middle School students Sydnie Mickelson and Chelsea Stocking performed a duet and received a I.

High school students earning a rating of I are qualified to participate in State Solo and Ensemble Festival in March at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant.

The DeTour Middle School and High School Bands took part in the MSBOADistrict 13 Festival Friday, February 22, at Rudyard High School. Performances were rated in the categories of tone, intonation, rhythm, technique, and interpretation.

The DeTour Middle School Band earned a Division II rating, receiving a II, II, and a I in concert, and I in sight-reading, for a final score of II.

The DeTour High School Band earned a Division I rating, receiving a I, II, and I in concert, and I in sight-reading, for a final score of I. Band members will now perform at the State Band Festival at Les Cheneaux Community Schools in Cedarville April 25.
