Neelis, Spring Are Named LaSalle High School Students of the Month

Ashley Neelis and Shane Spring have been named students of the month at LaSalle High School.
Miss Neelis, a senior, is the daughter of Paul and MariLu Neelis of St. Ignace. She has played volleyball all four years in high school, was selected captain during her senior year, and has earned numerous awards. She is supportive of all sports teams and is dedicated toward improving school spirit. She is working on the senior slide show that will be seen at graduation. She has been involved in Europe Club and has volunteered at the Straits Underwater Preserve Treasure Hunt for six years. She has won classroom awards and has been consistently on the honor roll throughout her high school career.
Her favorite teacher is Michelle LaTocha, and she lists art as her favorite subject.
She has three older siblings, Dana, Justin, and Derek, all LaSalle High School graduates.
Miss Neelis plans to attend Ferris State University to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Mr. Spring, a senior, is the son of Darren and Lori Spring of Moran. He is president of the senior class, was captain of the LaSalle High School Quiz Bowl team, and belongs to the National Honor Society. He is on the cross country team, earning Most Valuable Player honors. He is planning to go out for track and has previously played basketball and football. He has earned many academic awards and has earned the LaSalle Academic Award each year in high school.

He participated for two years in the 4-H Capitol Experience, in which he spent time in Lansing learning about leadership and government.
He selected Lynwood Leightner as his favorite teacher, and he lists drafting and mathematics as his favorite subjects.
He has one older sister, Andrea, who is a LaSalle graduate.
Mr. Spring plans to attend Lake Superior State University to pursue a career in computer engineering or computer science.
