Luceil "Lu" Harrington, 92, of St. Ignace, worked at several St. Ignace businesses over the years, and spent winters at Port Orange, Florida. Mrs. Harrington passed away Friday, March 21, 2008.
She was born July 10, 1915, in Detroit.
She married Daniel Harrington July 10, 1937, at St. Agnes Church in Detroit.
They moved to St. Ignace in 1946, and had five children.
Mrs. Harrington worked at Arnold Transit, First National Bank, and retired from Mackinac Straits Hospital. She was an avid bridge player, who loved to knit as well as travel. She was a member of Playcrafters, Parent Teacher Association, Mackinac Straits Hospital Auxiliary, and St. Anne's Alter Society.
For 25 years, she and her husband spent winters in Port Orange, Florida, where she volunteered at the Port Orange Library and the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona Beach. She worked many summers at Harrington's in downtown St. Ignace, and among family members, she was fondly known as "Lu the Lamp Queen" for her exceptional ability to sell lighthouse lamps.
She is survived by five children and their families, Sue and John Nagy, Thomas and Judy Harrington, Timothy and Holly Harrington, Cynthia and Eugene Beach, Patricia and Thomas Hayden; seven grandchildren and their families, Wendi and Dave Martin, Raleigh and Zachary Harrington, Dean and Jodi Beach, Chelsea and Taylor Hayden, and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Brianna Martin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, a sister, Florence Hirsch, and a grandson, Clyde Beach.
A memorial service will take place in the spring in St. Ignace.
