EAB Public Forum April 9 A public meeting to provide information about the state's firewood quarantine in Mackinac County, designed to prevent the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), will be Wednesday, April 9, at 7 p.m. at Little Bear East Conference Center in St. Ignace. A quarantine against moving firewood was imposed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture after infestations of the ash-tree-destroying insect were discovered in fall 2007 near Moran and at Straits State Park in St. Ignace. The public meeting will cover the quarantine, survey findings, and future EAB prevention activities. Questions from the public will be addressed. For more information, call John Hill at (231) 922-5210, or Jim Bowes at (517) 373-5355. Current information about EAB can be found at www.michigan.gov/eab. |
