It's time for the Naubinway Spring Fest, Saturday, April 26, at the Naubinway pavilion.

The auction will begin at 1 p.m. and continue until all items are sold.

Refreshments, including fresh pasties, will be served. At this time, donations for the spring auction are being requested.

All money raised will go to the fund that finances the Fourth of July fireworks and other community events.

There also will be a fishing contest, and fish must be registered to win a prize. Registration will be at the pavilion from noon to 5 p.m.

Donated items may be dropped off at Beaudoin's Marathon during business hours.

The Hudson Township Fire Department will have a smelt fry auction Saturday, April 26, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Johnny B's on US-2, east of Naubinway.

Donations are appreciated, and items can be dropped off at Johnny B's between now and 11 a.m. Saturday, or call (906) 477-1001 for pick-up. No clothes, please.

The Newberry Area Chamber of Commerce still has tables and tickets available for the annual dinner Saturday, April 26. For more information, call the Chamber office at (906) 293-5562. The awards dinner will begin with cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., and awards and entertainment by hypnotist Jim Hoke at 8 p.m.

Submarine sandwich pick-up will be Saturday, May 10, at the Youth Center in Newberry. There will be a bake sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more information, call Mary at the Youth Center at (906) 293-3729. The Youth Center is on the west end of the Senior Center, across from the IGA in Newberry.

There will be a Dairyland Donkey basketball game Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at the Engadine High School gymnasium, sponsored by the Engadine Band Boosters. For more information, call Sean Bennett at (906) 477-6424 or J.R. Clark at (906) 477-6313. Advance tickets are $5, or $7 at the door.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 10, for the Engadine Consolidated Schools Education Foundation and Sports Boosters Spring Fling, featuring the Green and Gold Revue at the Engadine school.

For 2008 high school graduates of the Curtis-Lakefield area, the Manistique Lakes Lions Club will be awarding its Ed Krepps Memorial $1,000 Scholarship this year.

The following criteria will be used as a guideline in awarding the scholarship: Residency in the Curtis- Lakefield area, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, and preferably seeking a degree in vocational education at an Upper Peninsula college.

All 2008 Curtis-Lakefield area graduates interested in applying for this scholarship should write a letter, using the above criteria as a guide, and mail to the following address: Manistique Lakes Lions Club, P.O. Box 373, Curtis, MI 49820, ATTN: Scholarship.

Please relate in the letter why you feel you should be considered for this award. All letters should be postmarked before Friday, May 9. Announcement of the winner will be made shortly thereafter.

There will be a lumberjack breakfast Saturday, May 24, at the Tahquamenon Logging Museum in Newberry.

Remember to call your local Department of Natural Resources office for a permit before you burn anything outdoors. The land is dry, and fire can spread quickly out of control.
