St. Ignace Sweeps Track Opener; Cedarville Boys, Pickford Girls Second

The St. Ignace Saints boys and girls teams posted victories in the track and field season opener at the St. Ignace Kiwanis Sports Complex Tuesday, April 15.
Seven schools from the Eastern Upper Peninsula made their 2008 outdoor debut as St. Ignace compiled 181 points to win the boys division, followed by Cedarville with 92.5, Pickford 87, Rudyard 65.5, Brimley 41, DeTour 32, and Mackinac Island 14.
For the girls, the Saints tallied 156 points to capture the title, followed by Pickford with 137, Brimley 91, Rudyard 70, Cedarville 38, DeTour 12, and Mackinac Island 4.
St. Ignace Girls/ Boys Results
Boys: Kyle Smock finished first in the 100-meter dash in 11.71 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 24.73; Shane Spring, first in the high hurdles in 17.59 and second in the low hurdles; Caleb Litzner, first in the low hurdles in 46.35 and second in the high hurdles; Anthony Lester, first in the high jump with a mark of 5'10" and third in the long jump.

The Saints' 400-meter relay team (47.5 seconds), four-person 800-meter-relay team (1:40.87), and 1600-meter relay group (4:01.2) placed first, and the 3200- meter relay foursome took second.
Evan Everson placed second in the 200-meter dash and fourth in the long jump; Devon Chargo, second in the 1600 run and fourth in the 3200; Gunnar Zipp, second in the long jump; fourth in the 200, and fifth in the 100; Kevin Guillard, second in the 400 and sixth in the 1600; Austin St. Louis, second in the high jump.
The Saints' Jesse Becker placed third in the 200 and fourth in the 100; Derek Marshall, third in the pole vault and sixth in the 100; and Lucas Thurston, sixth in the shot put.
Girls: Chelsea Swope won the 800-meter run in 2:41.8 and placed third in the 3200 run; Samantha Radecki won the long jump with a leap of 13'7"; Kali Jo Marshall won the pole vault with a height of 7'6."

The team's 3200-meter relay group finished first in 11:21.66, and the 400, 800, and 1600-relay squads took second place.
Caysey Brown placed second in the 200 and third in the long jump. Finishing second were Amanda Coveyou in the high jump, Jaimee Bloxsom in the pole vault, and Christi Therrian in the shot put. Chelsea Bosley took third in the shot put and fourth in the discus; Nicole Elmblad, third in the pole vault and fourth in the 1600; Mikaela Kelly, third in the 800 and fifth in the 1600; and Dani Ford, third in the 100 and sixth in the 200.
Grace Wheeler took fourth in the high jump and sixth in the 400; Kayla Gustin, fourth in the high hurdles; Kara Fitzpatrick, fourth in the long jump; Kristen Olsen, fifth in the 800 and the high jump; and Heather Beaudoin, fifth in the 200 and sixth in the high hurdles.
Cedarville Boys/ Girls Results

Boys: C.J. Paquin won the long jump with a leap of 18'7," placed third in the 100 dash, and fifth in the 200; Michael Kenny, second in the pole vault; Tyler Kanitz, third in the low hurdles and fifth in the high hurdles; Matthew Schlosser, third in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600; Jeremy Sherlund, third in the 400; Clayton, third in the 800; James Mitchell, fourth in the shot put; Cody Thompson, fifth in the high jump; Jordan Huff, fifth in the discus.
The 400-, 800, 1600-, and 3200-meter relay teams placed second.
Girls: Jessie Duncan took second in the 400; Caitlin Wright, third in the discus; Megan Hill; fifth in the high hurdles; Amber St. Andrew, fifth in the 100.
Pickford Boys/ Girls Results
Boys: Jonah Hascall won the pole vault with a height of 9'6"; Joe Jenkins, second in the discus and third in the shot; Paul Morrison, third in the high hurdles, and fifth in the low hurdles; Mickael Cantin, second in the shot and sixth in the long jump; Tony Stefanski, second in the 800.
The 400- and 1600-meter relay teams took third, and the 800 foursome took fourth.
Girls: Amanda Felty and Katilyn Jenkins won two events to lead the Panthers as Felty finished first in the 200- (30.46) and 400- meter dash (1:09.5), and Jenkins placed first in the discus (86'11") and the shot put (31'8").
The 400-meter relay team (56.59), 800-meter relay group (1:04.79), and the 1600 team (4:57.57) finished first, and the 3200 relay foursome took second.
Jamie Rifenberg took second in the high hurdles and fourth in the low hurdles; Amanda Zambron, second in the discus and fourth in the shot; Kelsie Brown, fourth in the 400; Callie Smith, fourth in the 400; Savannah Sterling, fifth in the 400 and sixth in the discus; Brandi Kopnitz, fifth in the 3200 and sixth in the 1600; Melissa Stevenson, sixth in the 800 and long jump; Megan Arbic, sixth in the 3200; and Alli Priskorn, sixth in the shot put.
Rudyard Boys/ Girls Results
Boys: Brady Burby won the shot put (39'5") and fifth in the long jump; Isiah Otten, second in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600; Zac Dempsey, fourth in the high hurdles and fourth in the low hurdles; Karl DeWitt, fourth in the high jump; A.J. Jones, fifth in the high jump and sixth in the low hurdles; Jorden Jarvie, sixth in the 800.
The 3200-meter relay team finished first (9:47.7) and the 800 relay group took third.
Girls: Brittany Hoolsema won the 1600-meter run (6:03.6) and placed second in the 800; Allyson Markstrom, third in the low hurdles, 200, and high jump; Rebecca Malaski, fourth in the 3200 run.
The 400- and 800-meter relay teams took third, and the 1600 foursome placed fourth.
Brimley Boys/ Girls Results
Boys: Ryan Freedman won the 400-meter dash (57.37), placed second in the 100, and sixth in the 200; Ken Schwiderson, fourth in the 800 and fifth in the 3200; Caleb Stahl, fifth in the 3200.
The 400-, 1600-, and 3200-meter relay teams finished fourth, and the 800 foursome took fifth.
Girls: Rachel Carruthers was a three-time winner, finishing first in the high hurdles (17.90), low hurdles (53.12), and high jump ( 4'10"), and taking second in the 100; Stephanie Carrick, won the 3200-meter (13.35) and placed second in the 1600; Jessica Graham, second in the 3200 and third in the 1600.
