Duncan To Be Inducted Into Sports Hall Of Fame

Sonja Duncan, a former standout basketball player at Cedarville High School and Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), will be inducted into the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame during ceremonies at the Dan Fourth Place in Escanaba at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 26.

Mrs. Duncan, whose maiden name is Paquin, played at Cedarville from 1979 to 1982 and at SVSU from 1983 to 1986.

The former all-state performer on the hardwood and track for the Trojans went on to earn All- American honors and was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference of the Year for the Cardinals at SVSU.

Mrs. Duncan ranks among the Cardinals top 10 in seven categories that include first in games played (127), second in steals (311), third in points (1721) and field goals (765), fifth in free throws (765), and sixth in rebounding (547).

During her high school years at Cedarville, she scored 1,352 career points, was all-conference four times, most valuable player three times, and was an all-Upper Peninsula selection three times. She also was four-time all-conference and two time all-state in track, and was named to the all-conference squad in volleyball twice during her high school career.

Now a coach at Cedarville High, Coach Duncan led the Trojans to an Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference, district, regional, and Upper Peninsula quarterfinal championships, and a final four appearance in the Class D state finals during the 2007-08 season.

She previously coached at Rudyard and Pickford.
