St. Ignace

Autumn Orm, 10, of St. Ignace bagged her first turkey Monday morning, April 21, in Atlanta, Michigan, near her grandparents' home. The turkey weighted 19.5 pounds. Her brother, Wyatt, 13, during the same trip, bagged his second turkey, which was a little lighter than his sister's, however, his turkey's beard was seven inches longer. Hanna Lupan has returned home after spending a few months in North Carolina with her sister, Liala Evans. Temperatures there ranged in the 50s and 60s. Hanna is happy to be back, and enjoys weekly social activities.

Louis Colegrove, president of the Straits Area Sportsmen's Club, reports an attendance of 14 at the group's April 21 meeting. The club meets the third Monday of each month.

Mark your calendar for the St. Ignace Kiwanis Club's annual whitefish dinner Thursday, May 1, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the LaSalle High School cafeteria. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children 10 and younger.

Lions Club members are planning the Lions Roar Auction for Saturday, May 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kewadin Shores Casino. Many St. Ignace businesses have donated auction prizes.

Dan French, owner of the San Bar Motel, has been keeping busy, as his business opened for the season Friday, April 18. He says he is looking forward to a successful season.

Among campers at Carp River last weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Prevo of East Jordan, along with their talkative cockatoo. The couple returns every year as their spring trip.

Birthday wishes to Dan Blair May 1, Gene Smith May 2, and Flora Smith, who turns 80 Thursday, May 3.

Happy birthday to Ashleigh Therrian April 27. A family gathering was held at the home of her parents, Steve and Joan Therrian. Belated happy anniversary to Tom and Barb Alkire April 17. They celebrated with dinner and dancing at a local restaurant.
