The official opening of the season began Friday, April 25, when Grand Hotel's The Gate House and Millennium Wing opened.
The popular Horn's Gaslight Bar welcomed Islanders and visitors for an evening of fun and dancing to the music of Tricky Dicky and the Spoonmen.
The Village Inn was very busy during the lunch hour, with ladies on their way to Grand Hotel for the weekend. They were part of the "scrapbookers" group gathered at the hotel.

Murdick's Fudge and Ryba's Fudge opened for the season Friday, April 25. Many visitors left the Island with the sweet treat of freshly made fudge.

We had the pleasure Sunday evening, April 27, of meeting the new director of sales for Mission Point Resort, Susan Thomas, of the Detroit area, who arrived by plane. Many folks will meet Susan at the annual Mission Point Resort party Wednesday evening, April 30.

Welcome back to Sheila Baret and Keith Leverton. Sheila will once again be employed by Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, and Keith has been at the Iroquois Hotel for many years.

A call received from Captain Paul Allers of Mackinaw City Monday, April 28, relates that going through his diary, he found that in 1972, the boat didn't start running until April 27. He also said that there was heavy ice in the Straits of Mackinac that year, until almost the second week in May. It's always a pleasure to hear from Captain Paul.
Mike Gamble Jr. will celebrate his birthday May 5, and his father, Mike Gamble Sr., will have a birthday May 9. Have a wonderful day.
The Pulte family of Ann Arbor have arrived to prepare the Murray Hotel for the season.
Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry opened for the season Friday, April 25, and Star Line Mackinac Island Ferry opened Monday, April 28.
Hundreds of colorful spring tulips are poking their heads above the ground all over the Island. In about two to three weeks, the tulips will be in full bloom and the colors will be magnificent.
Janet and Jay Stingel of Arden, North Carolina, enjoyed a short visit to Mackinac over the weekend. They enjoyed dinner with Dr. Bill and Sue Chambers at The Gate House opening night.
Great to see the Arnold Line catamaran sailing once again. It brought lots of passengers to Grand Hotel Monday, April 28.
Nancy and Jean LaBorde of Crivitz, Wisconsin, spent the weekend visiting family and friends.
Chuck Kleber found April 19 in the New York Times crossword puzzle, edited by their noted crossword puzzle authority, Will Shortz, a clue for 57 across: "Site of Mackinac Island." The correct answer was "Lake Huron." This is great publicity.
A delightful bridal shower was held Sunday, April 27, at the St. Ignace Golf Club honoring Megan Winkel.
The hostesses were Patti Ann Moskwa and Cindy Pierson. Everyone had a wonderful time, and Megan received an array of lovely gifts. Megan will become the bride of Ed McNulty Saturday, May 10.
Welcome home to Sara Sutherland of Orlando, Florida, who is
the summer on the Island with her relatives, the Larry Rickley Sr. family.
Mayor Pro Tem Armand "Smi" Horn is out and about after a short stay at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.
The Tom Lewand family enjoyed dinner at The Gate House Saturday evening, April 26. Great to see them back on Mackinac.
