Youth Only Know What We Teach
To the Editor:

We, as a community, need to start seriously thinking of our children of this community. They are our future, and it's up to us, as well as the parents, to help ensure their contribution to our community.

There are many bars, casinos, exercise groups, etc., for our adults to do.

I truly believe a martial arts group, also a boys and girls club, would help mold their character, endurance, respect, discipline, and most importantly, pride of their achievements.

Yes, we do have sports teams, but they are short term. They need consistency, somewhere they can go for, if nothing else, an outlet for their emotions. Yes, kids do have feelings as well as we do.

Yes, we have computers and video games, as well as many television programs for kids, but my question is, what happened to good old-fashioned genuine brain power? We are becoming a society of racing robots. What are we going to do when the computer system suddenly fails for awhile?

The days of "King of the Hill" or "Red Rover, Red Rover" are over. It is now how many people can we kill on video games or the predators of unsuspecting children on the computer.

Please, fathers of the community of St. Ignace and volunteers, let us help the parents teach our children to use their imagination, endurance, respect, and how to discipline themselves, for they are innocent; they only know what we teach them.
