Education Foundation Organizes Silent Auction

Artists will decorate pine benches to raise funds in the Les Cheneaux Education Foundation's third annual silent auction in July. The auction raises money to support local theater productions, awards art camp scholarships to fine and performing arts students, and helps pay for extracurricular activities and educational enhancements for the Les Cheneaux Community Schools district.

This year, the Woods Department of Cedarville High School, under the direction of Gary Wellnitz, will produce pine benches that are 24 to 36 inches in length.

Those interested in decorating a bench to be auctioned can come to the Les Cheneaux Elementary School Office to choose a bench during school hours. Each artist will receive 50% of the money their bench generates at the auction in July.

Artists may use any type of materials or media to complete original designs. Completed benches must be turned in by July 1, when they will be placed on display at the Les Cheneaux Community Library throughout the month. Bids will be placed during regular library hours.

Information about the auction or the Les Cheneaux Education Foundation can be obtained by calling Joanna Izzard at (906) 484- 3012 or Kate Ter Haar at (906) 484-3610.
